Cricket | Yolandi Van Der Westhuizen Joins Badgers Women
A former Protea Women national player, Yolandi van der Westhuizen, has joined the Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers coaching staff.
Van der Westhuizen, who represented the Protea women’s team as a wicket keeper between 2009 and 2014 has been appointed as the assistant coach of the Garden Route Badgers women’s team. She played provincial cricket for Western Province and Boland between 2001 and 2019. Martelize van der Merwe is the head coach of the team.
As part of her dual appointment, she will also coach the Garden Route Badgers Girls’ u/19 team which will participate in the Cricket South Africa National Women’s tournament that will be hosted in Durban during December 2024.
The Garden Route Badgers are one of six fully professional outfits in South African cricket who participates in the Hollywood Bets professional women’s series.
She held a Cricket South Africa Level III coaching certificate and has vast coaching experience that includes stints in Ireland and with the South African U/19 Girls’ team.
