What Is CLUTCH?
CLUTCH Fuelled by Monster Energy, presented by Vans, is an online campaign celebrating progressive, high-performance surfing, running from today until 30 November 2024.
Criteria
Criteria are open gates (anything goes). As Zigzag Editor Jazz Kuschke elaborates -"One crazy turn, an epic tube, it can be anything from one insane hack to a perfectly surfed wave. Basically, anything that people on the beach would say, 'That's insane'. A full rote air, a 50-meter section-long floater. It's pretty much open to everything."
CLUTCH! Fuelled by Monster, presented by Vans, comes with a massive prize pool. There's a whole division to reward the local heroes - celebrating and rewarding high-quality progressive surfing from the weekend warriors.
So, if you're sitting on a clip, send it in. And if you don't have anything yet, then get filming.
There are also cool prizes to reward the videographers for the Round Winners and the Local Hero divisions.
The Judges Are Ready
Entries must show a single ride. The criteria is simple, the most mind-blowing surfing on quality waves is what we're after. Whether it's a massive punt, a heavy tube or six turns on a J-Bay wall, every wave is a valid entry.
Our judging panel will choose a Winner and a Local Hero each month. The winner of each round of entries will be considered for the Grand Prize.

The Surfer wins R25 000 and your spot on a free mystery international editorial surf trip in 2025. You'll travel with the Monster team and the Zag crew.
The Videographer wins
R12 500 cash.
Monthly prizes:
The Surfer wins R5 000, a case of Monster Energy and an entry into the final for a shot at the Grand Prize.
The Videographer wins R3 000, a pair of Raen sunglasses, Vans Crosspath shoes, a Crosspath PO hoody, a case of Monster Energy, and entry into the final for the Videography Grand Prize.
