The premier division of the series is the U16 division, and the top four results out of five will determine the 2023 Rip Curl Gromsearch Series Results.
The Rip Curl GromSearch contests are both fun events as well as crucial conditioning and training for our country's young surfers in the skills and expertise needed to become successful competitive surfers and how to surf to the best of their abilities in front of the top Surfing South Africa judges. It also exposes these surfers to the media, who often attend these tournaments, covering the events and the surfers for various media outlets.
All eyes will be on the Cape Town contingent in Kommetjie, including surfers like Kai Stubbs, who won the U14 division in 2023 at this event, Ben Esterhuyse, Levi Epenetos, Emily Jenkinson and others.
Due to the wonders of science, we can already get a glimpse of what the waves might look like on that weekend, although this will definitely change over the next week or so. Right now, it is showing light onshore wind for the first two days and a nice little 3/4ft groundswell, with the wind going light offshore on the final day and the swell dropping slightly. It does look like excellent conditions for the contest, as Long Beach is a very contestable venue in the light onshore conditions.
The Rip Curl GromSearch contests are all premier SAST events, with 1,000 points going to the winners and prizemoney per all premier events.
Contestants must register as members of Surfing South Africa to compete in this Premier SAST Event.
The Rip Curl GromSearch series of events are Surfing South Africa events, and the GromSearch series is supported by Sea Harvest
