Durban to Host 2025 Sea Harvest SA Para Surfing Championships at The New Pier
Durban, South Africa – The 2025 Sea Harvest SA Para Surfing Championships will take place this weekend, the 12th and 13th of April, at The New Pier, one of Durban's most iconic surf breaks.

Hosted by Made for More and supported by the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture and Surfing South Africa (SSA), this prestigious event will showcase South Africa's top para surfers as they compete for national titles and the opportunity to represent their country at the World Para Surfing Championship later this year.
Anele Zama, general manager at Made for More, shares, "We are proud to be hosting one of the very few events in South Africa that include people with disabilities. This is a great platform for para surfing competitors as it gives them an opportunity to not only grow in their sport but possibly be selected for Worlds."
The championship brings together elite athletes from across the country, including former South African National Para Suring Team members, in what promises to be a weekend filled with inspiration, passion, and world-class surfing. The event celebrates the power of sport in uniting communities and empowering individuals with disabilities through adaptive surfing.
Anne Wright, Vice President of Surfing South Africa, shared her enthusiasm for this year's event: "We at SSA are thrilled to be a part of this very important event. Durban is also excited to have the contest back on Durban's prime break, The New Pier. We have World Champions competing, so it's going to be an exciting weekend. This is one of my favourite events - just come down to see."
While South African Para Surfing Classifier and the Roxy Davis Foundation board member Liza Lucani expressed her excitement, "I look forward to seeing how the new International Paralympic committee changes to the divisions enhance a fair and meaningful competition amongst our athletes."
Multiple medal winner at the World Championships and 2024 SA Team Captain Tracey McKay shared, "I'm pretty excited as we have a few new surfers that have never competed before, and they are very dedicated and highly competitive, which should be very interesting. People will be in for a shock this year as some of the underdogs will shine through!"
Spectators are encouraged to come to support the athletes, experience the electric energy on the beach, and witness firsthand the incredible athleticism and determination of South Africa's para surf community.
Surfing South Africa remains committed to the growth and development of para surfing nationally, working closely with athletes, coaches, and organisations to provide platforms for opportunity, representation, and excellence in the sport.
