The King Price Derby Series is redefining schoolboy rugby, pitting schools that already boast a rich history on the field against legends still in-the-making.

The next round of the series takes place on Saturday 12 April, and promises high-intensity matchups, with Paarl Gimnasium taking on Affies, Oakdale Landbou playing Paarl Boys, and Paul Roos up against Grey High School.

King Price Insurance CEO Justinus van der Westhuyzen says their decision to back the Derby Series is about more than just rugby… It’s about giving every young player a chance to be a giant for a day. “This sponsorship resonates deeply with us. As a brand that started out as the ‘little guy’ in the industry, we’ve always believed in backing the ‘little guys’. Some of the schools in the Derby Series are from small communities, with few resources and limited players to choose from, but the series gives them an opportunity to show South Africa just how massively talented and tenacious they are. We consider it an absolute privilege to be part of something that can change young people’s lives forever.”

Van der Westhuyzen adds that the Derby Series is a new chapter both for schoolboy rugby and for our country. “Nothing unites our country more than rugby and, ultimately, the Derby Series is all about nation building. Every kick, every tackle is part of a bigger story; a story about South Africans uniting in hope and celebration.”

The future of rugby is right here, right now, and Derby day gives all South Africans – young players, old boys, families and fans – a chance to be part of the stories that will define our next generation of Springboks. You can catch all the action live on SuperSport 216, the SuperSport Schools app, and the SABC+ app. Or, if you live near one of the participating schools, head on over and cheer your team on in person.

There are 55 Derby Series matches in total for 2025. Don’t miss out – visit kpderbyseries.co.za for the full match schedule and updates.
