This event will be a “celebration of life” where the athletes who have received solid organ or bone marrow transplants will compete in a variety of sporting events. SATSA strives to demonstrate the improved quality of life after transplantation and through sports promote awareness about organ donation and transplantation. This is also an opportunity for transplanted athletes to show their gratitude to their living donors and the family of deceased donors who saved their lives.

Athletes of ages 8 to 80 will be in action in 13 different sporting codes: Track and field Athletics, Cycling, Road running, Golf, Tennis, Squash, Table Tennis, Badminton, Swimming, Pétanque, Ten-pin bowling, Darts, Archery, Lawn Bowls. The Mother City will play host to the athletes where the majestic Table Mountain will inspire them to do their best and to qualify to represent South Africa at the next World Transplant Games in Dresden, Germany in August 2025.

30 Years of Transplant Sports in South Africa

On 9th April 1994 13 people got together in the Seaboard Holiday apartments, West Street Durban, to establish the Transplant Games Association of South Africa (TGASA). The name of the Association changed on 28th September 2006 to the South African Transplant Sports Association (SATSA). In 2019 SATSA celebrated 25 years of existence with a historical publication of achievements over the 25 years as well as various other regional events. SATSA is proud to have hosted 14 National Transplant Games over the years and has attended the World Games on 14 occasions. This year SATSA will celebrate 30 years of existence on Tuesday 9th April 2024 (100th day of the year). Celebrations will take place over the week of 8 to 14 April 2024 in the form of various social, sports and awareness events.
