The South African Women’s Squad has been announced for the FIH Hockey Nations Cup in Spain from 11-17 December 2022. The tournament offers the winners a spot in the FIH Hockey Pro League for the 2023/24 season.
For the South Africans their adventure starts against Japan in a reprise of their enthralling FIH Hockey Women’s World Cup earlier this year. A day later they take on another World Cup opponent in Chile before wrapping up the pool stages with a tough game against India. The top two teams qualify for the semi-finals and finals later in the tournament.
There is an opportunity for young stars Taheera Augousti, Kayla Swarts and Ntsopa Mokoena to earn their first caps while the tournament will also see the return of Anelle van Deventer to the squad in an exciting announcement.
Head Coach of the SA Hockey Women Giles Bonnet shared his thoughts
“This is the beginning of a new and exciting cycle for the South African Women’s Hockey Team. The FIH Nations Cup presents us with our first opportunity to match up and test ourselves against higher ranked teams. We look forward to the opportunity and the challenge!”
