South African Hockey announces South African U21 Men’s team for Junior African Cup of Nations 2023
South African Men’s U21 team named for the African Qualifier
South African Hockey has today announced the South African U21 Men’s team for the Junior African Cup of Nations in Egypt.
The 2023 Hockey Junior Africa Cup will take place from the 12-19 March 2023 in Ismailia in Egypt. The top two teams will qualify for the FIH Hockey Junior Cup in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. The Malaysia tournament is the 13th edition of the tournament with the South African team looking to add to their all-time high finish of 9th place achieved in 2021 in India.
The team selected features the core of players that featured in the Sultan of Johor Cup in Malaysia last year. Reece Govender, Viwe Mbata, Calvin Davis, Fawaaz Kahder, Ross Breytenbach and Cameron le Forrestier all have experience and will provide the base from which youngsters like Zeke Hougaard and James Flint will look to flourish.
