SA Women held by Ireland in International Indoor Hockey test series
International Indoor Hockey | SA Women held by Ireland
The South African Hockey Indoor Women took on Ireland in the fifth test today in Wynberg holding a 1-0 lead after a good win in the fourth test looking to seal the series with a victory tonight.
South Africa took the lead through the experienced Celia Seerane. Jamie Southgate won the ball, ran down the base line and crossed to Seerane who finished superbly. But the lead was erased and reversed by Ireland who led 2-1 thanks to goals from Sarah Patton and Orla Fox.
Tegan Fourie picked up a pass from Robyn Johnson, cut inside and finished low on the reverse stick side. The goal was Fourie’s 50th International goal becoming the third South African to reach the landmark after Cindy Hack and Kara Botes. But the South Africans trailed again before the break thanks to Amy Benson.
South Africa levelled again through Celia Seerane. This time it was a wonderful run from Danny de Oliveira that set up the star who smashed home the leveler! South Africa had the opportunities to win it but were unable to do so and, in the end, had to settle for a draw with the series still to be decided for the final game.
FINAL RESULT – South Africa 3-3 Ireland
