Hockey | South African Hockey Announces New Athletes' Commission

The South African Hockey Association is pleased to announce the newly formed Athletes' Commission, continuing our commitment to ensuring athlete representation and engagement within the sport.

Following voting conducted during the SA Hockey Interprovincial Tournament (IPT) this past week at St. Stithians College, Jamie Southgate, the current SPAR South Africa Indoor Hockey captain, has been elected as the Executive Member of the Athletes' Commission.

Jamie Southgate will lead the commission alongside a distinguished group of athletes, including:

  • Keenan Horne – Olympian and outdoor hockey player
  • Phumelela Hlophe – Olympian and indoor hockey player
  • Kamva Dyakala – Rising star in South African hockey
  • Mathapelo Pitso – Accomplished player and advocate for youth development

The Athletes' Commission will serve as a liaison between players and the association, ensuring that athlete voices are central to decision-making processes. In their first order of business, the commission will formalize the Terms of Reference for the committee. The term of the commission is aligned with the Olympic cycle, spanning four years.
