Hockey | SA Hockey IPT 2025 – Day 5 Wrap-Up

And just like that, the curtain comes down on a thrilling week of hockey at Hartleyvale. The 2025 edition of the SA Hockey Interprovincial Tournament delivered on every level, crowd-lifting upsets, emotional farewells, and moments of brilliance etched in the memories of all who watched.

Women’s B Section

FINAL Eastern Province 2–1 WP Disa
Eastern Province completed a flawless return to the A Section with five wins from five and a deserved gold medal. A clever finish from Toni Marks just before halftime set the tone, and Jade Singleton added a second in the third quarter. WP Disa pulled one back late via Emily Middleton to make it interesting, but EP held firm to reclaim their spot in the top tier.

B Section Women’s Awards

• Young Player of the Tournament: Grace Goodwin (WP Disa)

Women’s A Section

Final – Western Province 2–0 Southern Gauteng
The hosts reclaimed their crown with a confident win over their northern rivals. Charne Maddocks continued her fine form to open the scoring in the second quarter, and Brady Wiseman added a second to seal the result. A flawless campaign sees WP add the outdoor title to their indoor success, completing a historic double.

Bronze – SA U21 2–0 Northern Blues
The junior national side ended their dream run with a bronze medal and another big scalp. Jodie Blows struck early before Teshawn de la Rey sealed it late on. A fantastic showing that confirmed the future of SA women’s hockey is in good hands.

5th – North West 6–0 WP Peninsula
It was a fitting farewell for North West legend Kim Hubach, who marked her 25th and final IPT in style. Tamlyn Kock scored a hat-trick to take the golden stick, while Classen, Neethling, and van Niekerk also netted in a dominant display.

7th – Free State 5–1 KZN Raiders
In a shock relegation result, KZN Raiders drop out of the A Section after a heavy loss to a fired-up Free State. Burger and Hendricks scored early, and despite a reply from Brooklyn Kroutz, it was Free State who celebrated after Lisa van der Merwe made it five.

Men’s A Section

Final – Western Province 2–0 WP Peninsula
It was an all-Western Province final, an “A” vs. “B” matchup, delivering a historic moment for the tournament. WP Peninsula held firm for the first half, but in the third quarter, WP's class shone through. Mustapha Cassiem and Jacques van Tonder both converted penalty corners to give WP their fourth title in five years and reclaim their 2023 crown.

Bronze – SA U21 4–3 Southern Gauteng
A seven-goal classic! In a replay of the 2024 final, the juniors came out on top in a back-and-forth thriller. Brett Horn, Ross Montgomery, Reuben Sendzul, and Carlon Mentoor all scored in a game full of heart and grit. Southerns fought back with goals from Hermanus, Horan, and Britz, but it wasn’t enough to deny the bronze to the impressive SA U21s.

5th – Northern Blues 2–1 KZN Raiders
The Blues edged a tense affair with goals from Caleb Arries and Calvin Davis. A late strike by Dylan Ferreira made things nervy, but the Pretoria side held on to finish in fifth.

7th – Eastern Province 3–1 Free State
Nicholas Kingston produced a hat-trick to guide EP to a final-day victory and avoid the wooden spoon. Han-ru van Wyk scored for Free State, but EP’s bright finish was enough to close out their campaign positively.
