South African Hockey Announces AJ Spieringshoek as New Head Coach of SPAR South Africa Indoor Hockey Womens Team

South African Hockey is delighted to announce the appointment of AJ Spieringshoek as the new head coach of the SPAR South Africa Indoor Hockey Women’s Team, succeeding the retiring Lennie Botha. Spieringshoek, who has been the assistant coach of the national team since 2019, brings a wealth of experience and dedication to his new role.

During his tenure as assistant coach, Spieringshoek has amassed an impressive record, earning 43 test caps in his position. He played an integral part in the management team that oversaw series victories against Switzerland and Ireland. Additionally, his contributions were vital in leading the team to a commendable fourth-place finish in the FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup held in South Africa in February of this year.

Currently ranked sixth, the SPAR South Africa Indoor Hockey Women’s Team is eager to reclaim the Indoor African Cup title from Namibia, who emerged victorious in the previous event held in 2021. With qualification for the 2025 FIH Indoor World Cup at stake, the next tournament promises to be fiercely contested.

AJ Spieringshoek expressed his pride and enthusiasm upon assuming his new role:

“I am immensely honored and grateful for this opportunity. Taking over from Lennie, who has accomplished remarkable work, is a privilege. The experience of being part of the 2023 FIH Indoor World Cup has ignited a strong desire within all of us. We aim to make that exceptional achievement the new standard.
