Zebras take Perfect10 title at Gymnastics South Africa's big showcase event

Olympian Naveen Daries' Zebras team took top honours at this year's Perfect10 event, hosted by Gymnastics South Africa on Tuesday night at the Tuks Sports Centre. Despite a load-shedding interruption, the event saw some spectacular displays and lots of entertainment for the 2500 strong crowd.

Streamed live on SuperSport Schools, the Perfect10 is unique in the world as 30 top gymnasts compete in a team competition where scoring is done out of ten. Banyana Banyana midfielder, Nomvula Kgoale and Rhythmic Senior Olympic gymnast Shannon Gardiner were joined by SASCOC 1st Vice President, Lwandile Simelane as guest judges.

"There were many special moments last night, but the highlight was indeed seeing Gymnastics SA's history-making Commonwealth Games Women's Artistic team in action," says Anne Vermaak, Gymnastics SA CEO. "Each of the five teams were captained by the Women's Artistic stars."

"Perfect10 is our Big Night Out and it was indeed a spectacular night. Not only did we see 30 of our best gymnasts in action, but I also saw many young gymnasts queuing up to meet our Olympians, a very inspirational moment."

The participating gymnasts were divided into five teams – Blue Cranes, Meerkats, Zebras, Gazelles and Cheetahs. They were adjudicated by the guest judges as well as qualified gymnastics judges. The points the competitors received counted towards their own points tally, as well as their teams.

The individual competition was won by Caitlin Rooskrantz with a flawless display on the uneven bars. Ruan Lange was second with his parallel bar display and Parkour's Thomas Raggett took third place with his spectacular entrance dive into Rembrandt Hall.

The Perfect10 Showcase, forms part of Gym Games, Gymnastics SA's National Championships, which is currently taking place in Tshwane. All the action is streamed and available on SuperSport Schools.
