Gymnastics | Gymnastics South Africa appoints Khumbulani Konco as new CEO

Gymnastics South Africa appointed Khumbulani Konco as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective 17 June 2025. Konco will be based at Gymnastics SA's new Head Office and National Training Centre in Gauteng, where he will lead the organisation's day-to-day operations and drive its strategic vision to grow the sport across the country.

"Khumbulani's extensive experience within the sporting environment in management, administration as well as participation and regulations, coupled with his hands-on approach when dealing with issues made him a most favourable candidate for this position," said Adele Heine, President of Gymnastics South Africa. 

"His mandate is to lead Gymnastics SA according to our constitution, whilst following a culture of ethical behaviour and inclusivity, encourage growth in gymnastics in South Africa as well as building stronger relationships with stakeholders and sponsors. His entrepreneurship and knowledge within sport can only lead to building a better Gymnastics SA," added Heine.

With over 18 years of experience in sports management and administration, Konco brings a wealth of expertise and a fresh perspective to Gymnastics SA. A former professional footballer, he played for Orlando Pirates during the 2000/2001 season and later for Bloemfontein Celtic, before transitioning into sports management. His career has included roles as team manager, COO, and CEO over a nine-year period, as well as serving as an Executive Committee member of the Premier Soccer League.

"I look forward to joining the Executive team at Gymnastics SA and growing the sport of gymnastics in South Africa," says Khumbulani Konco, newly appointed CEO of Gymnastics South Africa. "Over the past couple of years Gymnastics SA has made good progress in establishing gymnastics as the mother of all sports in South Africa, and I hope to bring renewed momentum to this drive. 

Good governance, brand visibility and strong stakeholder relationships are key focus areas for me, and I look forward to working with all interested parties in growing gymnastics in all communities," adds Konco. 

Known for his strong interpersonal skills and ability to work both independently and collaboratively, Konco is fluent in five official South African languages and is well-positioned to engage with stakeholders across the country.

Gymnastics South Africa welcomes Mr Konco and looks forward to the impact of his leadership in driving growth, inclusion, and excellence in gymnastics.
