Gymnastics | Gymnastics SA elects new President and 1st Vice President

The new leadership of Gymnastics South Africa was elected at its recent Quadrennial General Meeting, held virtually on Saturday, 20 July 2024.

Adele Heine, current Chair of Central Gauteng Gymnastics Association and Exco member of Gauteng Gymnastics Association was elected as the new President of Gymnastics South Africa replacing Donny Jurgens.

Gerhard Ferreira of Gauteng was elected as the 1st Vice President replacing Clive Naidoo. Keo Mokolopo-Meyer from Gauteng retains her current position as 2nd Vice President.

"I am deeply honoured by the trust that the gymnastics community has placed in me and I am excited about the journey that lies ahead, says Adele Heine, newly elected President of Gymnastics South Africa. "I will work tirelessly to uphold the values of GSA and for the betterment of gymnastics for all. I would like to thank the outgoing President Mr Donny Jurgens and 1st Vice President, Mr Clive Naidoo for their contribution over the last four years. We do appreciate it."

Adele Heine has been involved in gymnastics for more than 40 years, inter alia as national events coach and as chair of Women's Artistic Gymnastics (WAG).

Gerhard Ferreira has been involved in Artistic Gymnastics since 1975 and recently served as the High Performance Portfolio holder on the Men's Artistic Gymnastics Discipline Committee. Since readmission to international sport, Ferreira represented South Africa at various international gymnastics events as coach and manager.

Four-time Rope Skipping World Champion and representing South Africa at the International Jump Rope Union, Keo Mokolopo-Meyer, started gymnastics at the age of 9. With over 20 years' experience in coaching and development, Mokolopo-Meyer has played a significant role in taking gymnastics to rural communities across South Africa.

Gymnastics South Africa extends its heartfelt appreciation and support to Donny Jurgens and Clive Naidoo for the roles they have played in representing South Africa on the continental and International levels. Jurgens and Naidoo worked closely with the Union of African Gymnastics (UAG) and International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) in cementing South Africa's position in the international arena.

The change in leadership comes at a time when gymnastics take centre stage at the Paris Olympics, when Caitlin Rooskrantz, together with Akani Simbine, lead Team SA in the parade of nations in the Opening Ceremony
