Rugby | Richard Das Neves Appointed Interim Head Coach Of Momentum Multiply Titans
Titans Cricket is pleased to announce the appointment of Richard Das Neves as the interim head coach of the Momentum Multiply Titans, until the end of the 2024/2025 season.
The appointment comes in the wake of Mandla Mashimbyi’s remarkable achievement of being appointed as the new head coach of the Protea Women’s team. Mashimbyi has played an instrumental role in the growth and success of the Titans over the years, and Titans Cricket congratulates him on his well-deserved promotion to the national women’s team.
Das Neves will step into the role with immediate effect and is the most probable successor to Mashimbyi having served as assistant coach from 2023/2024 before being involved as High-Performance Coach form 2021/2022.
He brings with him a wealth of experience in South African domestic cricket, a former first-class cricketer with a deep understanding of the game. His knowledge of the squad, its strengths, and his commitment to player development makes him the ideal choice to guide the team through to the end of current season.
Speaking on the appointments, Titans Cricket CEO Dr Jacques Faul said. “I am excited and happy for both Mandla and Richard. Mandla’s appointment to the national women’s team is a well-deserved one and we’d like to thank him for his time and contribution to the Titans. He was involved in 11 trophies and on two occasions won CSA’s coach of the year.”
“For Richard it’s a great opportunity to lead the Momentum Multiply Titans. He’s a very knowledgeable coach with great understanding of the game and holds the highest coaching qualification offered by Cricket South Africa. I’m confident that he will hit the ground running and steer the big blue ship in the right direction.” Faul continued.
“We are incredibly proud of Mandla’s achievements and his appointment as head coach of the Protea Women is a testament to his hard work and dedication,” said Titans Cricket CEO, Dr Jacques Faul. “While we will miss his leadership at the Titans, we are confident that Richard will continue the great work done and keep the team on track for the remainder of the season.”
The Momentum Multiply Titans will continue their quest in the ongoing 4 Day Series, with Richard Das Neves at the helm, as they aim to add to their impressive record in domestic competitions.
A formal appointment process will begin in the new year with the role being advertised in the end of January 2025 and an appointment of a new head coach towards the end of February to coincide with the contracting window opening in March 2025.
