Cricket | SA 20 | Six Stars To Get The Kingsmead Crowd On Their Feet

Betway SA20 Season 2 arrives at Kingsmead today for the clash between Durban’s Super Giants and MI Cape Town.

The hype may all around West Indies duo Nicholas Pooran (DSG) and Kieron Pollard (MICT) but there will be plenty of talent around them.

We profile six players that are sure to grab the headlines tonight.

Quinton de Kock - Durban's Super Giants

Quinton de Kock has freed himself of all responsibilities by relinquishing the DSG captaincy and retiring from One-Day International Cricket. He certainly went out with a bang striking four centuries at the recent 50-overs World Cup in India. De Kock also seems refreshed now that he can focus solely on his T20 franchise career. He has already sampled Australia’s Big Bash this season and will be eager to get DSG off to a couple of flying starts.

Liam Livingstone

Liam Livingstone is familiar with the Mother City having previously played out of Newlands. The Lancastrian quickly became a fan favourite due to striking sixes that sailed over the Railway Stand into the nearby brewery. Livingstone has had a quiet of couple of years on the international circuit and will be determined to show that he remains one of the most dangerous T20 batters in the world. In the absence of injured skipper Rashid Khan, Livingstone’s leg-spin will be invaluable at Kingsmead.

Heinrich Klaasen - Durban's Super Giants

Heinrich Klaasen recently joined the growing list of players to quit Test cricket in favour of white-ball cricket. It did not come as a surprise to many for Klaasen has been one of the most fearsome white-ball strikers in the world over the past 18 months. The powerful right-hander’s CV is littered with centuries in SA20, IPL, MLC and the World Cup. He will form part of a formidable DSG middle order that also includes Nicholas Pooran.

Dewald Brevis - MI Cape Town

It’s a big season for the MI Cape Town wunderkind after debuting for the Proteas T20I side this past winter. He has since also working on refining his game in the longer formats, which has yielded centuries in both the List A and First-Class format. Brevis would like nothing more than to show how much he has matured with a striking display at Kingsmead tonight.

Reece Topley - Durban's Super Giants

The fans may stream through the turnstiles in T20 cricket to watch the explosive batters, but it’s the bowlers who win tournaments. And Reece Topley is the type of bowler who can do just for DSG. Lethal with the new ball in Powerplay, Topley regularly makes the early inroads. The Englishman has been unlucky with injuries at major ICC tournaments in recent years, but the lanky left-armer is now fully fit and raring to go.

Kagiso Rabada - MI Cape Town

Kagiso Rabada is the talisman in every team he plays for and it will be no different at MI Cape Town. The responsibility will be even greater now on 'KG' since his partner-in-crime Jofra Archer has been ruled. Rabada has also been in fine form this summer with the red ball, and will be eager to lead from the from to help MI Cape Town turn around their fortunes in Season 2
