Cricket | Mixed Success For Badgers Colts against Western Province

The Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers Colts team had mixed success the past weekend when they took on their Western Province counterparts in Cape Town.

In the three-day match the Badgers managed to finish with a credible draw but in the limited over match the Oudtshoorn based team suffered an 85 runs defeat.

In the three-day match the Badgers, who batted first, posted 313 in their first innings with Keenan Vieira (105) and Pheko Moletsane (119) who scored centuries.  Western Province responded with 366/4 thanks to impressive batting performances by Christiaan Oberholzer (157), Josh Chippendale (85) and Josh Breed (65). 

With a deficit of 53 runs on the first innings it was again Vieira with an innings of 83 who played a pivotal role with the bat to enable the Badgers to post 266 (all out).  He received good support from Ruan Terblanche (49), Hayden Sweet (37) and Heath Richards (34). 

Being set a target of 214 Western Province were with their backs against the wall at 96/7 at stumps on the third and final day as the match ended in a draw.

In the one-day match that was played at Newlands Western Province batted first and posted a competitive 302/8 in their 50 overs whereafter the Badgers in spite of solid start thanks to Mark Andrianatos (82) and Breyten Plaatjies (46) was dismissed for 217 for defeat of 85 runs.  Spin bowler, Sinalo Gobeni – who was impressive with the ball in the three day match – bagged 6/41.
