The 2024/25 campaign of the Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers will kick-off this weekend.

The Badgers will take on the Mpumalanga Rhino’s in the Cricket South Africa Twenty20 competition for Division 2 at Uplands College in White River on Saturday.

After Saturday the Badgers will travel to Benoni where they will take on the Eastern Storm at Willowmoore Park in Benoni on Tuesday 24 September.

The Badgers will be desperate to improve on their performances from last season and has some new personnel in their line-up.  The head coach Gurshwin Rabie is however full of confidence that the line-up can turn the ship around and improve on their disappointing performances of last season.

Opening batsman, Yaseen Valli, who played for the Badgers in the 2021/22 season is back in the Southern Cape after he was contracted by the Tuskers and will captain the side. The Badgers also contracted five other newcomers for next season.  The new acquisitions are the former SA U/19 captain and middle order batsman, George van Heerden from the Warriors, former SA U/19 wicketkeeper/batsman Luke Beaufort (from the Knights) and fast bowlers Hlompho Modimokoane (from the North West Dragons) Lifa Ntanzi (from the Dolphins).  Kyle Jacobs, who previously played for the Warriors and represented the Badgers in the latter half of the past season was rewarded with a professional contract. 

Disappointing news is the top-order batsman, Ruan Terblanche, who was unavailable for most of the previous season due to ankle surgery has recurred his ankle injury and will be sidelined for six weeks.

The Badgers squad is: Yaseen Valli (captain), Luke Beaufort, Khwezi Gumede, Kyle Jacobs, Thomas Kaber, Hlompo Modimokoane, Pheko Moletsane, Lifa Ntanzi, Kelly Smuts, Jarred Jardine, Tyrece Karelse, Sintu Majiza, Liyabona Malife, Heath Richards and Keenan Vieira.
