Cricket | Can Sussex Make Cricketing History?

Sussex Cricket Club from Mossel Bay will face the most successful club in the history of the Six Gun Grill SWD Premier league competition on Saturday in the final that will be hosted at the REC Ground.

Sussex, who reached the final after an exciting nail-biting two wicket victory against Pacaltsdorp at D’Almeida on Saturday, will lock horns with Union Stars which has topped the log at the end of the pool stages and directly advanced to the final.

Sussex only taste of the Petersen Trophy was in 1999/2000 – when the current club chairman, Earle Petersen, played for Sussex.  They were runners-up in the finals of 2004/5 and 2011/12 (both against Union Stars).

Union Stars will play in their first final since 2018/19 when they lost against Nelson Mandela University.  The Bridgton based team has won the trophy eight times since 2010 with their last success in 2017/18.

The final, which will be played at the REC Ground, will start at 10:00
