Sponsorship to go to the Commonwealth Chess Championship and African Youth Chess Championship

My name is Wanga Netshimbupfe, I am 18 years old and I am a chess player. Earlier this year in April I was selected to participate in the South African Junior Chess Championship Closed (SAJCCC) tournament and I earned a place in the top 10 that way qualifying to compete in the 2025 Commonwealth Games Chess Championship in Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur taking place in November as well as the African Youth Chess Championships that will be held in Zimbabwe in December. This means I will be representing South Africa as I will be a part of the South African under 18 girls team.

For some people, chess is just a board game with black and white pieces, but for me, it's so much more. It's a game that has taught me invaluable lessons about life, and it's something I'll always cherish.

I love chess because it's a constant puzzle. Every move presents a new challenge, a new problem to solve. It forces me to think critically, to plan ahead, and to consider all possible outcomes. It's like a mental workout that keeps my brain sharp and focused.

But chess isn't just about logic and strategy; it's also about creativity. The most beautiful games are often those with unexpected sacrifices and brilliant combinations. Chess teaches me to look beyond the obvious, to find unique solutions, and to express my own style and personality on the board.

Beyond the game itself, I love the community that comes with it. I've met so many incredible people from all walks of life, all united by a shared passion for the game. Whether we're opponents or teammates, we respect each other's skill and love for the game.

It's an honor to be able to talk about something that's been a constant in my life for years: chess. For me, it's more than just a game; it's a journey, a challenge, and a deeply personal quest.

My dream is to one day earn a title—to have a marker of all the dedication and hard work I've poured into this passion. A title isn't just about the prestige; it's a testament to the growth and development that has occurred along the way. It’s a goal that keeps me motivated, pushing me to find new ways to improve and to never be content with where I am.
Chess has taught me so much about life—the importance of patience, the value of deep thinking, and the resilience needed to bounce back from setbacks. The path to becoming a better player is filled with both triumphs and losses, and it’s in those moments that you truly learn what you're made of. I'm excited to see where this journey takes me and to continue striving for that ultimate goal.

My journey in chess hasn't just been about rankings; it's been a profound, personal commitment to discipline, strategy, and representing the best of myself and South Africa . I've been honoured to earn a spot at the prestigious Commonwealth Games Chess Championship, but getting there requires more than just training. The reality is, the costs for international travel, coaching, and accommodation are a significant personal barrier. I'm reaching out to you because I need help to make my dream come true. Assisting me with a sponsorship of anything or any amount would be a humble but meaningful investment—it wouldn't just fund a player, it would lift a member of the community onto a global stage, allowing me to focus on bringing home a medal without the anxiety of expenses.
