At just 18 years old, we, Kelebogile Simelane and Thato Ramohlale, decided to turn our passion for cheerleading into something much bigger.
Growing up, we saw so much potential in the young people around us, but we also saw the challenges they faced—opportunities were scarce, and dreams often felt out of reach. That’s why we came together to create Tshidi Stars, a nonprofit organization that uses cheerleading as a tool to inspire, empower, and transform lives. For us, cheerleading isn’t just about routines or competitions—it’s about building confidence, fostering teamwork, and showing young people that they can achieve anything they set their minds to.We wanted to create a space where kids from all walks of life could feel supported, encouraged, and motivated to dream bigger. Cheerleading taught us the value of resilience and believing in ourselves, and now we want to share that with as many young people as possible.
Starting this nonprofit at 18 was a bold step, but it’s a decision we’re proud of every single day. In a small township, children gather in an empty field, trying to mimic the moves of cheerleaders they’ve only seen on TV. Among them is Princess, a 12-year-old with a dream as bright as the stars she aspires to reach. Her energy is infectious, her smile lights up the field, but her family struggles to make ends meet. Cheerleading gyms are out of reach, both geographically and financially. For kids like Princess, the world of cheerleading is a distant, unattainable dream. At Tshidi Stars, we believe every child deserves a chance to shine, no matter where they come from.
Cheerleading is more than jumps and stunts; it’s about building confidence, fostering teamwork, and inspiring discipline. It’s about giving children like Princess a platform to leap toward their full potential.
