Two of South Africa’s three men’s sprinters qualified for the 200m semi-finals at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon. Luxolo Adams, who has a personal best of 19.82sec, and Sinesipho Dambile progressed automatically, while Tokyo Olympian Shaun Maswanganyi narrowly missed out.

 

Here’s how SA athletes fared on Tuesday:

In the men’s 200m, Luxolo Adams finished second in his heat in 20.10 to automatically qualify for the next round. Sinesipho Dambile produced a personal best 20.29 in finishing second in his heat behind 100m gold medallist Fred Kerley and qualified for the next round. Shaun Maswanganyi finished fourth in his heat in 20.79 and did not progress to the next round.

 

In the women’s 200m, Shirley Nekhubui finished seventh in her heat in 23.46 and did not progress to the next round.
