Tennis SA to host 2023 Davis Cup Africa Regional Event

Tennis South Africa (TSA) is thrilled to announce that South Africa has been selected as the host country for the 2023 Davis Cup Africa Group III tournament. The prestigious event will take place at TuksTennis, University of Pretoria in Tshwane during the week commencing August 7, 2023.

The globally renowned men's professional team event will span a four-day period, from August 9th to 12th, 2023. Teams from Benin, Algeria, Namibia, Senegal, Togo, Ivory Coast, and Zimbabwe will join the host nation, South Africa, as they vie for a coveted spots in the World Group II playoffs in 2024.

South Africa was relegated to the Regional Group III events after a loss to Luxembourg earlier this year in an away tie. They will be hoping to reclaim their spot in the World Group and solidify their position as the leading African nation in the Davis Cup.

The top three teams from the event will advance to compete in the Davis Cup World Group II Play-offs in 2024. Conversely, the bottom two teams will be relegated to the Africa Group IV for the year 2024.

TSA is honored to host such a significant event in the Davis Cup calendar and looks forward to welcoming players, officials, and tennis fans from across Africa.

"We are confident that this tournament will not only showcase the immense talent in African tennis but also inspire the next generation of players in our region. The tournament will assist TSA’s ambition to regain its position in the World Group stages.

"We invite all tennis enthusiasts to join us in August for a thrilling spectacle of tennis action," added Crookes.

The Davis Cup, often referred to as the World Cup of Tennis, is the premier international team event in men's tennis. It is organized by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and contested annually in a knockout format between teams from participating countries.
