Surfing | Entries Open For Rip Curl GromSearch and Rip Curl Cup Port Alfred presented by the Royal St Andrews Hotel

Port Alfred – Surfing South Africa has opened entries for the Rip Curl GromSearch Port Alfred and the Rip Curl Cup Port Alfred. These events will take place during the Easter Weekend – March 29 – April 1 2024 and are part of the Port Alfred Easter Festival presented by Sunshine Coast Port Alfred Tourism.

The Rip Curl GromSearch is a junior event with U12, U14, U16, and U18 Boys and Girls divisions. It is contest number two of a five-event series, and entries can be found HERE.

The Rip Curl Cup is an Open Speciality Event; with surfers of all ages invited to enter this tournament. It has two divisions, Open Men and Open Women, and it sports a whopping R75k prize pool, with the winners in the two divisions taking home an R20k first prize. Entries can be found HERE.

Surfers competing in the Rip Curl GromSearch can also enter the Rip Curl Cup. It will be a great opportunity for our up-and-coming surfers to compete against more experienced surfers in South Africa, gain valuable competitive experience, and even go all the way to the finals.

These two events will take place at East Beach, Port Alfred, one of the premier sand-bottom waves of the East Coast.

The combined prize pool for the two surf competitions is a whopping R105k. Entries will fill up quickly, so competitors are urged to enter as soon as possible to be included in the events. Local Port Alfred surfers Lily and Owen Heny, along with Carl Wiersma, have already placed their entries. From further afield, Brad and Sarah Scott, Kai Hall, Luc, Louise, and Leah Lepront, along with Rip Curl Teamriders Ben Esterhuyse and Rylan Jarvis, have also all secured their entry spots.

The local NSRA Port Alfred Station 11 will provide water safety for both events, as well as the SA Bodyboarding Challenge, which will take place at West Beach at the same time.

The festival will also feature the Good Time Fair On The River, an open-air market on Friday, March 29, at Wharf Street and Van Der Riet Street.
