Rowe & Masters take Class D in Volkswagen’s SupaPolo

Volkswagen Motorsport’s 2023 South African Endurance Series campaign started on the front foot when Keagan Masters and Daniel Rowe’s Volkswagen SupaPolo won class D en route to sixth overall at the Zwartkops Four Hour in Pretoria on Saturday.

“We had a really good weekend at Zwartkops,” Daniel Rowe explained. “We qualified eleventh and quickest in class and could have stopped once. “We however felt that our Class D rivals may have had a pit strategy advantage on us, and a one stop would have been very tight on fuel. “So we decided to play it safe and opted for a two stop plan.”

“The race was very good,” Keagan Masters added. “I did the first stint and the car was awesome to drive, we never had any issues and race ran so smoothly. “I came in on lap 120 and Daniel took over. “We planned that I would get back in when we pitted for a splash and dash near the end, but seeing how close the others were, we left Daniel in the car.

“Shame, Daniel had a good two and a quarter hours in there versus my hour and 45 and it was toasty in there without a fan or aircon on a hot day! “It was great passing the slower cars and having faster cars passing us. “There were close calls, but we raced four hours without a scratch or anyone touching the car, and it was great to come home first in class and sixth overall.”

“Daniel and Keagan showed just how versatile our SupaPolo race car is among all the Sports and GT cars,” Head of Volkswagen Motorsport Mike Rowe concluded. “This car is already well proven as a sprint racer in the GTC SupaCup, so this Endurance effort just goes to show how capable it is in any racing environment. “It was a great day all round – we can’t wait for the next endurance race!”

Daniel and Keagan’s next South African National Endurance Series appointment will be at Red Star Raceway near Delmas on 28 and 29 April.
