The Stockholm Diamond League witnessed an unexpected feat as Zakithi Nene delivered a stunning 400m performance, while Simbine soared in the 100m event to retain his crown.
Despite the absence of compatriot Wayde van Niekerk, who withdrew due to feeling unwell, Nene pulled off an impressive upset in Stockholm, beating renowned 400m athletes like Matthew Hudson-Smith, the bronze medalist at the world championships, and Bayapo Ndori, an Olympic relay bronze medalist from Botswana.
Clocking in at a remarkable 45.30 seconds, Nene claimed the top spot, with Nigerian sprinter Emmanuel Bamidele close behind at 45.48 seconds. Hudson-Smith secured third place, finishing with a time of 45.57 seconds.
Fresh from his Golden Spike victory in Ostrava, Simbine continued his winning streak by leading from the get-go to finish with a time of 10.03 seconds.
Reece Prescod of Britain came in a close second, just 11-hundredths of a second behind, while German sprinter Joshua Hartmann secured third place in 10.23 seconds.
