SA Cycling | Gearing Up for 2024 National Championships in Midvaal

Cycling South Africa and Midvaal Municipality are delighted to announce the progressing preparations for the forthcoming National Road, Criterium, and Time Trial Championships to be hosted in the Midvaal municipal area. The prestigious National Championships are scheduled to take place in Midvaal, Gauteng, from 1— 4 February 2024.

Cycling SA wishes to provide its members with an update on the route/s development. While not yet finalized, substantial and successful progress has been made during the past week. The road race route is anticipated to feature a compelling combination of the John Bosco loop, Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve with a straight approach to the finish line.

Additionally, representatives from Cycling SA recently convened with key stakeholders from the Midvaal Municipality, including the Head of Traffic and a panel of department heads, to deliberate on the event. Although details are not conclusively settled, preliminary approval has been granted. A formal presentation is scheduled for 8 January 2024, during which Cycling SA will present the event to the same panel for final consideration.

After a thorough route inspection was conducted with the Head of Tourism at Suikerbosrand, the team is pleased to report their approval for incorporating Suikerbosrand into most of the championship routes. While currently a positive indication, formal approval from Regional Parks Management is still pending.

The Individual Time Trials will start and finish at the Race Village, Café de Cirque, popularly known as “the Circus”. Various routes and distances will also be finalised pending approval following the presentation on the 8th of January next year.

The Criterium is set to unfold in the heart of Meyerton, promising a spectator-friendly experience. Cycling South Africa eagerly anticipates the successful culmination of these discussions and looks forward to delivering a world-class championship event for participants and spectators alike.

Registration for the National Championship is currently open at www.cyclingsa-events.co.za.
