Swedish Armed Forces Adventure Team win Adventure Racing World Championships in South Africa
The Swedish Armed Forces Adventure Team has emerged as the new Adventure Racing World Champions. They displayed exceptional endurance and resilience as they conquered the grueling 840km Expedition Africa course through the breathtaking Kouga region of Eastern Cape. Their remarkable journey culminated with a victorious finish at the Cape St. Francis Resort.

- The team completed the race in an impressive 118 hours, 33 minutes, and 26 seconds.
- The Swedish Armed Forces Adventure Team consists of John Karlsson, Malin Hjalmarsson, Oskar Svärd, and Per Vestling, all of whom secured their second world title. Vestling, in particular, came out of retirement to join SAFAT.
- A pivotal moment in their victory occurred on the 5th day of racing, during a challenging 124km cycle ride through the Kouga Mountains. They maintained their lead and went on to complete the final 32km coastal trekking stage.
- The journey was not without its trials. At one point, the team faced a difficult nighttime search for checkpoints within the Sand River Dune Fields. Despite strong winds and disorienting terrain, their resilience prevailed.
- The final stage presented further challenges, including an injury to Malin Hjalmarsson's foot and exhaustion. However, they persevered, even when the stage took twice as long as anticipated.
- The team's victorious arrival was met with an exuberant crowd at Cape St. Francis Resort, adding to the emotional and joyous atmosphere.
