There were mixed fortunes for South Africa's wheelchair tennis players in the singles competition at Wimbledon on Wednesday. Donald Ramphadi emerged victorious in his opening match, while Kgothatso Montjane unfortunately bowed out in the first round.

Ramphadi recovered from a set down to defeat the former world No.1 David Wagner from the United States, winning 2-6, 6-2, 6-0 and securing a place in the semifinals of the grass-court Grand Slam. His next challenge awaits against the top seed Neils Vink from the Netherlands.

On the other hand, Montjane faced a tough opponent in Diede de Groot, the Dutch top seed. Despite her best efforts, Montjane couldn't overcome De Groot's strong game and was defeated in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. Montjane will be in doubles action alongside her partner Yui Kamiji later this week.
