Shinikova stuns top seed Oz in Tshwane
Bulgarian Isabella Shinikova produced the biggest upset of the Ilana Kloss International tournament on Wednesday, defeating top seed Ipek Oz in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.
Shinikova, ranked 394 in the WTA world rankings, defeated the Turkish world No. 192 in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, to advance to the second round against Alina Korneeva of Russia.
In other action, Israel's fourth-seeded Lina Glushko defeated South African wild card entrant Naledi Manyube 6-1, 6-1 to advance to the second round.
Glushko will then face the country's top-ranked player, Isabella Kruger, for a place in the quarterfinal round of the $25,000 ITF prize-money event. Their match is set to begin at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday.
