BSI hosts awareness campaign in collaboration with WMACA AAA

WOMEN AND MEN AGAINST CHILD ABUSE ATHLETES AGAINST ABUSE

Child Protection week kicked off on 29 June 2022 to spread awareness to ensure that the most vulnerable in our society do not suffer abuse. As adults, we have a duty of care, and it is our responsibility to stop the cycle of neglect, abuse, violence, and exploitation of children.

We arranged an education and awareness campaign in collaboration with Women and Men Against Child Abuse (WMACA) athletes against abuse.
The course was aimed at parents, officials, teachers, and administrators. Luke Lamprecht and Olivia Jasriel discussed our responsibilities as adults in the care of youth athletes. They discussed the facilitation of registration, certification, education, and police clearance of sports coaches and administrators. Furthermore, they raised awareness around current child abuse and historical abuse and its long-term effects.

The powerful presentation was a call to action to create change and ensure that our children can flourish in the environments we create. Sport changes lives, and we decide if that is a positive or negative experience. As adults, we should create an environment where they can be heard, and then we have the responsibility to listen. There is work that needs to be done, and this is an exciting time as we now have somewhere to start. We look forward to working with WMACA AAA to further our knowledge and implement the policies to protect our children.

The course was followed by a Celebrity Exhibition match which was eagerly watched by the parents and players in attendance. We were fortunate to have Gavin Hunt, Matthew Booth, Bennett Chenene, Alan Mabula, Riccardo Lorenco, Lebesa Selepe (SA basketball), and Mphalela Mokgathle (Mr. Decorum), and many more...The celebrity select was well organized and managed to create chances against the resolute BSI Football Academy select defense.
The game ended 3-0 to the celebrity select, and the WMACA AAA campaign was the ultimate winner. We would like to thank our sponsors, OBC Butchery, LiquorCity, and the support from COSAFA.

The future looks bright, let's make sure we keep it safe for our children.
