South African race driver Aqil Alibhai enjoyed another positive weekend in the RoKIt British Formula 4 Championship on the short Brands Hatch Indy Circuit. Qualifying in tricky conditions, Alibhai was sixth in the opening two heats a before being taken out in the Final.

“That was a really positive weekend,” Aqil admitted. “Qualifying was so tricky! We had a narrow window before the rain came down harder and I had lots of traffic. Still, I managed two decent laps to start ninth in the first race, and 11th for the final.

“It rained for the first heat, where I made my way to end up sixth, which I was happy with. I had a good second reverse grid race too. I was held up a little, so the guys in front got away, but sixth was a great result, all considered.

“I made a mega start in the Final to get up to seventh in the first corner, but someone tried to make a move on the outside on lap 2 and closed in on me. He hit my left rear with his front right, spun me around and that was it!

“We had the pace to be up there, so that was a really hard one to take in. Still, it was a really positive weekend for my team Virtuosi and me. We are working hard together. There’s a podium incoming!” It’s now another short break for Aqil before round 3 at Snetterton.
