Nare prevails in 10km thriller in Mbombela   Defending champion Tadu Nare (Nedbank) of Ethiopia enjoyed a thrilling victory over teammate Helalia Johannes of Namibia in the SPAR Grand Prix Women’s 10km race in Mbombela on Saturday. She finished in 32min 43sec and Johannes in 33:02. Ethiopian junior runner Selam Gebre was third in 33:12. Glenrose Xaba (Boxer) was the first South African home, in 33:37. Meintjes second on L’Alpe d’Huez after heroic ride   South Africa’s Louis Meintjes finished second behind Britain’s Tom Pidcock in Thursday’s 12th stage of the Tour de France, a 165.1km Alpine trek between Briancon and L’Alpe d’Huez. It’s GOLD for Birkett at 2022 World Games   Team SA’s Andy Birkett struck gold at the 2022 World Games being held in Birmingham, Alabama, when he won the men’s canoe marathon, K1 standard distance final. Final names added to Team SA for Birmingham   The South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) announced an additional 61 athletes to the Team South Africa squad that will carry the nation’s flag at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, which will take place from 28 July to 8 August.
