In the 2021 IPT final, Western Province fell agonizingly short in a shootout to Southern Gauteng. This time round they were looking to inflict the same fate on the 2022 hosts the Northern Blues. The Blues were looking to regain the title they won in Bloemfontein in 2019.
It was a game that was highlighted by the quality of the goalkeepers as Nepo Serage and Anelle van Deventer both produced moments of true class in denying the opponents and leaving a game poised for a moment of quality.
