RESULTS: More GOLD for Team SA in athletics

Fredriech Pretorius won four of the five events held in the decathlon at the African Games on Tuesday to win the gold medal in Accra, Ghana. Elsewhere, Mire Reinstorf won the women’s pole vault gold with a Games record of 4.35m.

Pretorius had started the day in the bronze medal position, but brilliant performances in the 110m Hurdles, the discus, pole vault and javelin, all of which he won, allowed him to enjoy the final event, the 1500m, as a few victory laps.

The two golds on the night meant that Team SA moved to three athletics medals – all gold and, which also takes the country’s total to 96.

Here is a list of how our athletes performed in Accra.
