At the invitation of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the leading representatives of the Olympic Movement met today for the 13th Olympic Summit, which was held at Olympic House in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Team SA’s Olympians were recognised in two different awards ceremonies on Sunday night. At the Gauteng Sports Awards, Tatjana Smith, Bayanda Walaza, Simone Kruger and Rocco Meiring all received a trophy, while at the World Rugby awards, Selvyn Davids was named in the men’s Sevens Team of the Year.
The South African Sports Confederation, Olympic and Paralympic Committee (SASCOC) president, Mr Barry Hendricks, alongside CEO Ms. Nozipho Jafta and the Honourable Minister of Sport, Arts, and Culture, Mr Gayton McKenzie, attended a significant meeting at the International Olympic Committee (IOC) headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Following the positive impact of the mental health services provided to athletes at the Olympic Games Paris 2024, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is sharing its approach with the wider Olympic Movement.
The next Commonwealth Games, to be held in Glasgow in 2026, will stage a streamlined 10 sports programme, with team sports rugby sevens, hockey and cricket among those removed from the competition.
