Six South African drivers off to England to race for the prestigious Walter Hayes Trophy

Four Investchem F1600 champions among six
A strong six-man contingent of South African drivers is jetting off to England to race for the prestigious Walter Hayes Trophy over the coming weekend. The team comprising four Investchem Formula 1600 champions will be at Silverstone on 5 and 6 November.
Double reigning SA Global Touring Car champion and multiple former Formula 1600 champion Robert Wolk leads the team. He’s joined by fellow GTC racers and former Formula 1600 champions Julian van der Watt and Andrew Rackstraw in one Ian Schofield-run SA team.
Reigning champion Josh Le Roux and his 2022 Investchem Formula 1600 rivals, veteran Andrew Schofield, and young gun Alex Vos comprise a second South African squad run by Kevin Mills. All six drivers will be supported by an entourage of South African crew.
The world’s biggest Formula Ford 1600 weekend, the Walter Hayes Trophy attracts drivers from across the world to Silverstone. Over 100 entries will line up in an epic weekend of wheel-to-wheel racing famously subjected to all form of November Blighty weather.
The action commences with a frantic day of qualifying races on Saturday to pare the field down ahead of Sunday’s knockout. Only 36 cars qualify the Grand Final, the winner of which will lift the prestigious Walter Hayes Trophy.
