Wolk well ahead, home run for Julian, Andrew
Chemical Logistics Racing heads to the Cape Town International Raceway with team leader Robert Wolk in a strong Global Touring Car championship lead and teammates Julian van der Watt and Andrew Rackstraw intent to impress their home crowd on Saturday 17 September. The occasion is Cape Town’s penultimate sixth round National Extreme Festival races. The mission is very simple: to win!
“I arrive at Killarney in my strongest ever GTC championship position,” 2021 champion Robert Wolk explains. “It’s not impossible to clinch it this weekend, but our objective is to deliver another strong performance in the Cape and to take an even stronger advantage home for the Zwartkops finale a month later. “Julian and I shared the wins here in March, so it would be good to do that again. “Special thanks in advance to my incredible team – you have given me a perfect car every race this year. “Just a few more to go now – can’t wait!”
Julian van der Watt has won two races so far in 2022, one of those at his Killarney home track, where he has a solid winning reputation. “We head back to home ground this weekend and for me, it’s always a huge boost to race in front of the Killarney crowd. “I won at home last time out, but we have been a little unlucky how things have panned out over the past few rounds. “All of which is why I can’t wait to race Chemical Logistics Ford Focus RS GTC in the Cape again!”
Reigning Formula 1600 champion and GTC rookie, Andrew Rackstraw is another driver keen to exorcise a lengthy stretch of rotten luck when he returns to home ground aboard his older Investchem RDSA Audi S3 this weekend. “I’m really looking forward to racing at home,” Andrew admitted. “I’ve not had the easiest season so far, but we have learned so much this year, so it would really be cool if it all came together at Killarney. “We are also really looking forward to seeing all our old friends and fans, so I can’t wait for this one!”
“Chemical Logistics Racing arrives at Killarney right on the front foot for once,” team manager and WCT Engineering boss Stuart Thompson admitted. “That said, there’s zero room for complacency and the team remains focussed on a back-to-back championship for Robert, and making Julian and Andrew’s home races most memorable,” Team principal Ian Schofield concluded: “Robert and the team have worked so hard to gain that championship advantage. “A little more effort and we should wrap it up very soon – go get it lads!”
