The Hollywood Foundation is pleased to announce its sponsorship of the upcoming Manqoba Mngqithi Foundation tournament, aimed at fostering youth sports development in Umzimkhulu, KwaZulu-Natal.
The tournament, scheduled for 27 July 2024, at the Umzimkhulu Turf Ground, promises to be a pivotal event for local youth football.
The Manqoba Mngqithi Foundation, founded by esteemed coach Manqoba Mngqithi, is dedicated to nurturing young talent in the Harry Gwala region through structured football programmes. With the Hollywood Foundation's support, this year's tournament marks a significant milestone as it includes both boys' and girls' teams, reflecting a commitment to gender-inclusive sports development.
"We are thrilled to partner with the Manqoba Mngqithi Foundation in organising this tournament. Our aim is to empower local communities through sports, providing young athletes with opportunities to showcase their skills and passion for the game,” said Mpho Dintwa, Hollywood Foundation CSI manager.
“The Manqoba Mngqithi Foundation is partnering for the first time with the Hollywood Foundation to stage a district wide football tournament, which we hope to sustain and grow over the years. Our vision is to empower the youth and therefore ensure that in all its tournaments, young players under the age of 21 years are given priority by football teams. For the first time with this tournament, we have included young female football teams, which is the area that we identified as a critical strategic area for development,” said Manqoba Mngqithi
The tournament, which is endorsed by the South African Football Association (SAFA), features teams from across the Harry Gwala District, culminating in exciting semi-finals and finals on 27 July. This event not only celebrates the spirit of grassroots football but also underscores the Hollywood Foundation's dedication to leaving a legacy of support and empowerment.
