WBSC reveals U-15 Baseball World Cup 2024 groups
The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) revealed the groups of the WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup 2024, scheduled from 16 to 25 August in Colombia.
World No. 1 Japan, No. 9 Dominican Republic, No. 12 Puerto Rico, No. 13 Colombia, No. 14 Italy and No. 33 Guam will compete in Group A.
No. 2 Mexico, No. 5 Chinese Taipei, No. 6 Venezuela, No. 7 Netherlands, No. 20 Nicaragua and No. 34 South Africa will play in Group B.
As per the WBSC standard formula, the groups are based on the seeding from the 2022 edition (eight out of 12 teams participated: Chinese Taipei, Japan, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia, Guam and South Africa) and the position in the WBSC/KONAMI World Rankings of the National Teams who did not participate in the 2022 edition (Netherlands, Dominican Republic, Italy and Nicaragua).
The Edgar Renteria Stadium in Barranquilla will host one of the groups, the Super Round and the medal games. The stadium is named after former Major League Baseball (MLB) All-Star shortstop and two-time World Series champion Edgar Renteria, nicknamed The Barranquilla Boy. The ballpark was the main venue for the WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup 2018.
The Once de Noviembre (November 11th) Stadium in Cartagena de Indias will host the other group and the Placement Round. The venue is dedicated to the day in 1811 when the Cartagena Province gained independence from Spain.
There have been 19 previous editions of the WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup starting in 1989, with the United States winning the last tournament in 2022.
