South African Baseball has unveiled the first-ever South African Women’s Baseball Teams, including both Senior and U18 teams.

Both teams are set to compete in Africa’s first-ever women’s baseball international series, a thrilling five-match home and away series against Zimbabwe.

The series will kick off at the Boksburg Baseball Club in Gauteng from 23-25 August 2024, before moving to Zimbabwe for the away matches later in the year. This event is a significant milestone in the history of South African Baseball, showcasing the talent and potential of women athletes in baseball in South Africa.

South African Baseball has a strong foundation in women’s baseball across multiple age groups, with successful club and provincial teams. This series aims to further strengthen and grow women’s baseball in South Africa by providing international exposure and competition.

This series is not only a competition but also a testament to the successful development of women’s baseball in South Africa. It is a celebration of the strides being made in nurturing and elevating the sport within the continent. South African Baseball is proud to lead the way in this historic development, which promises to inspire and empower a new generation of players.

The teams, coached by veteran Coach Hayley Scott-Maree, have been selected from various provinces across South Africa through the provincial elite squad system, with several women coaches now providing opportunities in women’s baseball.

President of South African Baseball, Dr. Marc Moreau, stated: “This event is a major milestone for South Africa as we continue to lead baseball in Africa. This event is especially special for South African Baseball as we continue the drive to grow women’s baseball at all age groups, including our youth at clubs and schools. As South African Baseball, we emphasize the priority of creating pathways for women and girls at club level with dedicated support structures to ensure the opportunity exists for all to eventually proudly fly the flag for South Africa.”
