The 19th FINA World Championships are under way in Budapest, Hungary. In action on Thursday was Clayton Jimmie in the 50m freestyle where finished 7th in his heat in 22.74 and placed 43rd overall (out of 90 swimmers) and didn’t qualify for the semi-finals.
Matthew Sates, who finished 8th in his first World Championships final on Wednesday night, finished 10th in his 100m butterfly heat in 54.17 which placed him 41st (out of 65 swimmers) overall and did not qualify for the final.

The 19th FINA World Championships are underway in Budapest, Hungary. In Friday’s action, Lara van Niekerk won her 50m breaststroke heat in an African record 29.77, which qualified her as the fastest in the heats. Emma Chelius took to the water in the 50m freestyle. The 25-year-old was also impressive, finishing third in her heat in 24.87sec and qualified for the semi-finals 7th fastest overall out of 82 starters. Her SA record stands at 24.64.

High-performance programme pays dividends for water polo club
A sustained commitment to improving their performances led to several accolades for the Madibaz Water Polo Club at the Nelson Mandela Bay Aquatics awards evening in Gqeberha this month.
Not only was the women's team named club of the year, left back Ashleigh Vaughan was voted player and athlete of the year.

Past does not count as Madibaz face fresh water polo challenge
Although the Madibaz women's water polo team have had significant success in recent times, they are braced for a fresh challenge at the University Sport South Africa tournament in Durban this week.
Nelson Mandela University will also send a men's team to the event, which is hosted by Varsity College from Wednesday to Friday (December 7 to 9).
The women's team have finished as high as third at previous USSA competitions and earlier this year they won the Currie Cup at the nationals in East London.
