Many lifesaving clubs around the country have been on duty throughout the year, performing voluntary duties at beaches and pools and providing essential water safety at events.
This weekend marks the season's official opening for voluntary lifeguards in the Western and Eastern Cape.
Lifesaving South Africa has over 4000 voluntary lifeguards patrolling South African beaches, pools and dams during the summer season. The lifeguards are highly trained to keep the public safe, provide rescue services,...
The voluntary lifeguard duties this past summer, which included two long weekends in December, ensured that there were no drownings during duty hours. This is a massive effort of our young members who sit in the hot sun, rain, and wind to ensure that drownings are prevented.
Many will participate in the Lifesaving National Champs from 30 March to 5 April 2023 in Gqeberha

I am a 16-year-old competitive lifesaver that has been selected as a part of the President's team to represent South Africa at the Orange Cup Lifesaving competition in the Netherlands in December.
This is a full self-funded tour that I would love to attend as my dream is to one day represent the South African senior lifesaving team.
