The Indoor Africa Cup 2024 came to an end yesterday with Namibia men and South Africa women winning gold and securing their spot at the upcoming FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup 2025, which will be played in Poreč, Croatia from 3-9 February 2025. With two men’s and two women’s spots available from Africa for the World Cup, South Africa men and Namibia women also qualified for the upcoming premier indoor hockey competition by finishing as the silver medalists at the Indoor Africa Cup.

The SPAR South African Indoor Women’s Team and Thailand began their Indoor World Cup journey on Monday in Poreč facing off in their first ever indoor hockey meeting. Having seen the other Pool game between Poland and Austria end in a draw, the winner would top the pool in the early stages.
The SPAR South African Indoor Hockey Women took to the court playing much fancied Poland knowing that they needed a massive win to secure an unlikely place in the quarter-finals. The South Africans, hurting from their big defeat, produced a spirited performance but ultimately fell short in an enthralling battle in Porec.
