The next stop for the programme is in Motswela Secondary School in Kroonstad (10 – 14 February 2025) where a new group of teachers will be supported to develop essential skills to deliver structured and engaging physical education sessions that benefit thousands of learners.

Premier Skills training programme for teachers utilises the Let’s Play Centres of Sporting excellence, a SuperSport’s Let’s Play initiative where schools receive state-of-the-art multipurpose sports fields. These field handovers have already impacted seven provinces—Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, Free State, Northern Cape, and Western Cape—providing vital community hubs for structured physical education and youth sports development.

Beyond Training

The impact of Premier Skills and Let’s Play extends beyond teacher training. Educators who have completed the programme have gone on to organise community sports events, including the Let’s Play Fun Run and the Modified Hockey Heritage Day Festival, which collectively attracted over 6,000 participants. These events provide young athletes with opportunities to develop their skills while promoting the importance of physical activity in schools and surrounding communities.

Empowering Educators for Lasting Change

The Premier Skills teacher training programme is more than just a workshop, it is a transformational initiative that empowers teachers to become sports leaders in their schools and communities. By equipping educators with structured training methodologies, the programme ensures that physical education remains a cornerstone of youth development, encouraging teamwork, discipline, and a lifelong passion for sport.

With the current training sessions in Kroonstad, even more teachers will be empowered to make a difference, ensuring a sustainable impact on school sports and community engagement.

About Premier Skills and Let’s Play

Premier Skills uses the appeal of the Premier League and the British Council's trusted global network to empower football coaches to support children and young people in marginalised communities. It also supports teachers and other educators to deliver high-quality physical education and sports.

Since 2013, the British Council and Premier League have supported more than 3,500 educators and coaches, across six provinces in South Africa through Premier Skills. As a result, more than 117,000 children and young people have benefitted from more engaging sport and physical education.

Let’s Play, an initiative of MultiChoice’s SuperSport, is dedicated to promoting youth sports development in South Africa. Together, these programmes are transforming physical education and empowering educators to create lasting change in their communities.
