"We couldn’t be more excited to welcome Spargs as our title sponsor," says Trystan Viaene, Public Relations & Administration Officer at Eyabantwana Trust. "Their involvement not only elevates the Spargs 1000 Cycle Race but also significantly strengthens our mission to enhance healthcare for children in our community. This partnership goes beyond a sponsorship; it’s a shared commitment to bettering the lives of children."

Founded in 2011, Eyabantwana Trust has been an indispensable supporter of the Department of Paediatric Surgery at Frere and Cecilia Makiwane Hospitals in East London. The Trust was established to address critical healthcare needs that the Department of Health could not meet due to budgetary constraints. With a focus on purchasing essential medical equipment, upgrading hospital infrastructure, and funding the training of medical staff, Eyabantwana Trust is dedicated to enhancing the quality of surgical care provided to children.

The Department of Paediatric Surgery treats thousands of children annually, performing complex operations that range from neonatal and general paediatric surgery to cancer treatment and trauma care. The department is the fourth largest of its kind in South Africa, serving children from the central and remote rural areas of the Eastern Cape, often from impoverished backgrounds. Eyabantwana Trust’s efforts ensure that children continue to receive the life-saving treatment they need, regardless of their financial circumstances.
Entries for the Spargs 1000 Cycle Race are officialy open. Cyclists of all levels are invited to participate in this landmark event, making a meaningful impact on children’s healthcare in the Eastern Cape, with cash prizes and lucky draws up for grabs.
