Meet Eurico and learn a bit more about him, as he tells us about his football influence, his role at BSI and his passion to develop our youth to become all that they can and more.
“I started playing football at a young age and have been immersed in the industry ever since. I have been fortunate to have played and worked in the professional football industry. As a physiotherapist, I have fulfilled roles in senior and youth professional set-ups and worked in the South African and United Kingdom education sector. I have been involved in BSI Football since the start as a founding shareholder and director.”
Eurico Marques on values and ethos:
“Integrity and perseverance are important values I hope to instill into the football academy players. Being a fierce competitor on the field is important if players want to progress in the football industry, and integrity ensures that you can progress in life. Ensuring that we control our perceptions and thoughts, direct our actions accordingly, and accept what is out of our control is important to developing the character that the modern world requires, now more than ever.
The football world is an extremely unforgiving industry. The game itself is beautiful but the industry is shadowed by things out of our control. Globalization also means that the more and more players have access to realistic opportunities, but has also opened the nasty side of the industry to more passionate young individuals. Ensuring that we maintain integrity throughout our journeys is vital to maintaining our sense of self. Players need to identify with values, not achievements. We are who are, what we do on the field is not a reflection of who we are off the field. To succeed, our players must be relentless on the field. They will need to persevere when obstacles seem insurmountable.
They will need to be kind to people they meet yet show the determination to succeed at the same time. It is a fine balance, but one that is achievable with good people around you.”
