Pioneering the sport and fitness education sector as UXi Sport HFPA introduce new qualifications
Sandton, June 2024 – In a significant leap forward for the sport and fitness education sector, the Health and Fitness Professionals Academy (HFPA) became the first fitness academy in South Africa to obtain accreditation for the National Occupational Certificate: Fitness Instructor, as certified by the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO).
“This new qualification aims to prepare learners to excel as fitness instructors, equipping them with the skills to design and implement comprehensive physical activity programmes for individuals and teams,” said Thea Miller, CEO of UXi Sport. “Graduates will be proficient in screening, assessing, and monitoring health-related fitness programmes, making them indispensable assets in the sport and fitness industry.”
Unique Attributes and Opportunities
Graduates of this qualification will possess key attributes such as leadership, discipline, compassion, and dedication. They will be capable of:
- Testing and assessing individual and group fitness levels.
- Designing and planning tailored fitness programmes.
- Coordinating and instructing exercise sessions and classes.
“The introduction of this National Occupational Certificate aligns with the evolving demands of the fitness industry, replacing the previous National Certificate in Fitness, NQF Level 5,” Miller continued. “This realignment underscores the need for professionalisation and recognition within the fitness sector, which has often been perceived as lacking formal standards despite its successes.”
The benefits of this qualification extend beyond personal achievement, offering substantial social and economic opportunities. Graduates will be recognised as specialists and professionals, capable of advising on exercise, fitness, and wellness across various platforms, including group or individual interventions, social media and online.
Career Prospects and Industry Growth
Completing this occupational certificate opens up a range of job opportunities within the fitness and sporting sectors. Graduates can look forward to career growth within corporate wellness and fitness facilities, advancing from junior to senior roles. The qualification also encourages entrepreneurial endeavours, enabling graduates to start group-class enterprises and community exercise initiatives.
Conclusion
UXi Sport HFPA is excited to not only enhance the professionalism and recognition of the sport and fitness industry but also to empower our learners with the tools to thrive in a dynamic and growing field.
