The Essence of Ringball
Ringball, a traditional South African sport, traces its roots back to the early 1900s. This non-contact team sport combines elements of netball, basketball, and indigenous games. The game's objective is simple yet exhilarating: score points by passing the ball through a ring positioned at either end of the court.
Rules and Gameplay
The rules of Ringball closely resemble those of netball. The court is divided into thirds, and each team consists of nine players distributed across three sections:
1) Goal Scorers: Positioned near the rings, these players aim to score points.
2) Centre Players: Responsible for ball movement and strategic play.
3) Defenders: Guard the opposing team and prevent scoring opportunities.
Players pass the ball to teammates, emphasizing teamwork and precision. Running with the ball is prohibited, maintaining the game's dynamic and strategic nature.
Ringball transcends age and gender, making it a true family sport. Whether you're a young enthusiast or a seasoned veteran, the 2024 National Ringball Championships promise excitement, camaraderie, and unforgettable moments.
